OUR FLAGSHIP PROJECT-”BOMBUREUELLA ADAPTATION FOR CLIMATE CHANGE PROJECT”
Eco Tourism Intervention
Transforming to Analogue Forest
In the Bomburuella Watershed, we introduced an analogue forestry system as an alternative to traditional crop cultivation, transforming farmlands into diverse, perennial crop systems. This approach restored degraded soils, improved water retention, and enhanced biodiversity, while reducing the risks of climate-related crop failures. By integrating native tree species with high-value perennial crops, farmers secured stable income sources and strengthened their long-term livelihoods through a more sustainable and resilient land-use model.

OTHER NOTEWORTHY PROJECTS
CONFLICT SENSITIVITY APPROACH
Implemented 3-day training programmes on ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution’ in Badulla, Monaragala and Mannar Districts, where over 200 participants, including local community leaders and government officials, engaged in dynamic sessions designed to foster understanding and collaboration. These programmes not only enhanced participants’ skills in mediation and negotiation but also empowered them to effectively resolve conflicts within their communities. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing gratitude for the practical insights and tools gained. This initiative has laid a strong foundation for ongoing efforts to promote peace and understanding in these regions, contributing to a more harmonious future for all.
LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Implemented 3-day entrepreneurship training programmes on ‘Know Your Business’ and ‘Start Your Business’ in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Puttlam Districts for 750+ university and school students. These sessions were designed to inspire and equip young minds with the essential skills needed to navigate the entrepreneurial landscape. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, where they learned about business planning, financial management, and marketing strategies. Guest speakers, including successful entrepreneurs and industry experts, shared their personal journeys and offered valuable advice, motivating students to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. The programmes fostered a spirit of innovation and creativity, encouraging students to think critically and explore new opportunities.
WOMEN IN DIGITAL BUSINESS
A capacity-building program for 40 women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, sponsored by the ILO, aimed to enhance digital skills and business knowledge in the digital economy. Participants received hands-on training in e-commerce, digital marketing, and online engagement, fostering networking and collaboration. With mentorship, many entrepreneurs began implementing digital strategies to grow their businesses, promoting both economic empowerment and gender equality in the business sector. This programme not only contributed to the economic empowerment of women but also played a crucial role in promoting gender equality in the business sector.
SCHOOL-TO-WORK TRANSITION
In 2016–2017, we led a groundbreaking School-to-Work Transition project in the Asia-Pacific region, with technical guidance from UNESCAP. Partnering with Sri Lanka, Mongolia, the Philippines, Pakistan, and India, the initiative focused on addressing the challenges young people face when moving from education into employment. As the lead partner, we developed five comprehensive training modules designed to equip youth with practical skills, career guidance, and confidence to thrive in the modern world of work.
YOUTH ADVOCACY TO DEVELOP COMMUNITIES
In 2017 & 2018 we partnered with Plan International Sri Lanka to implement the “Our Voice Matters” youth advocacy project, engaging 160 young people from Anuradhapura and Monaragala districts. The initiative empowered youth to actively participate in decision-making processes with local government institutions. Through targeted training, they were supported to form their own community-based organisations, strengthening their voices and roles in local governance and development. This project fostered long-term youth empowerment and civic engagement at the grassroots level.
CAREER GUIDANCE SERVICES
Large-scale career awareness programs across Sri Lanka, inspiring vocational trainees and school students to explore diverse career pathways, build essential skills, and plan for a successful future. Alongside these events, stakeholder forums and job markets bringing together employers, training providers, and industry representatives were organised. These platforms not only introduce youth to real-world employment opportunities but also connect them directly with potential recruiters, internships, and mentorship, creating a strong bridge between education, skills, and the job market.
Corporate Happiness enhancement
Organised Corporate Happiness Enhancement Programs tailored for both government employees and industry workers, aimed at fostering a positive, motivated, and productive workforce. These programs are developed in close consultation with institutional counsellors to ensure relevance and effectiveness in addressing workplace challenges. Using a specially designed curriculum, we deliver interactive sessions that blend theory with practical exercises, focusing on emotional well-being, stress management, teamwork, and personal growth. The approach not only boosts employee satisfaction but also enhances organisational performance and workplace harmony.
protected house agriculture
Conducted and facilitated an intensive two-day residential training course on Protected House Agriculture, designed for both Sri Lankan participants and those preparing to migrate overseas for employment. The program equips trainees with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills in modern greenhouse automated technology, tissue culture, nursery maintenance, post-harvest handling, and value-added production techniques. Through hands-on learning and expert-led sessions, participants gain the technical expertise required to meet global agricultural standards, enhance productivity, and access broader job opportunities both locally and internationally.
empowering differently-abled
Organised a special empowerment program for differently-abled individuals seeking meaningful engagement and sustainable income opportunities. Supported by the Centre for Poverty Alleviation, the initiative offered a focused three-month training on creating unique wall crafts using locally sourced raw materials. During the training, participants designed and crafted artistic representations of some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Temple Tooth Relic and the White House. This program not only enhanced their creative skills but also promoted economic independence and social inclusion, enabling participants to contribute confidently to their communities.
