Strengthening Skills,

Transforming Lives.

Since 2003, the Foundation for Strengthening Human Skills (FSHS) has delivered SDG-aligned, inclusive, and resilient development. We apply climate-smart solutions, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and eco-tourism to strengthen livelihoods and environmental resilience. Through youth- and community-led, conflict-sensitive approaches, we promote social cohesion.

Our core priorities include women’s economic empowerment through cottage industries and digital entrepreneurship, and expanding inclusive education for deprived communities through needs-based interventions.

TESTIMONIALS

In 2013, with UNDP GEF-SGP support, we launched the Bomburuella Biodiversity Conservation initiative as a community intervention to promote sustainable land-use practices. Local farmers actively contributed to restoring encroached lands through reforestation and eco-tourism. To ensure long-term land conservation, the analogue forestry system was introduced. A farmer-centred community mechanism was formed to empower and sustain their stewardship of the environment. Mr. Kithsiri Vimalachandra Project Consultant (Climate resilience)

Service of Foundation for Strengthening Human Skill (FSHS) This is to appreciate the service provided by FSHS to the project from July 2016 to December 2017 as a project partner. FSHS undertook the community level youth mobilization, delivery of training, and facilitating youth for advocacy of the said project along with other project partners. The work done by FSHS during this period, while being responsible for the timely achievement of outputs of key activities assigned by the project, is admirable. I would not hesitate to recommend FSHS to any other similar project. Deepashika Gunasekara Project Manager 'Our voice Matters! The Bomburuella Biodiversity hotspot is a unique ecological zone in Sri Lanka and a place where a large population lives. As a result, it is an area that is under threat due to environmental damage and illegal cultivation. The endemic plants such as Dovyalis hebecapa(කැටමිල්ල), Garcinia terpnophylla (කොකටිය), Neolitsea cassia,(කුඩුදවුල), Micromelum minutum(වල් කරපිංචා විශේෂයක්), Gaertnera walker(පේර තඔල විශේෂයක්), Cassine glauca(නෙරළු), Elaeocarpus glandulifer( හීන් වෙරළු) can be seen here and this sensitive ecological zone was introduced through our Climate Change Adaptation Project to protect it and start a community-based tourism industry.
